Funnel Hacking Checklist

A practical checklist for documenting a competitor funnel and translating observations into original hypotheses.

Editorially reviewed • Updated September 2026

Before entering the funnel

  • Define the market and offer category.
  • Choose direct competitors and audience-overlap competitors.
  • Create a notes sheet for each funnel.

Capture the sequence

  • Traffic or entry source
  • Landing-page promise
  • Lead capture
  • Sales mechanism
  • Checkout
  • Order bump
  • Upsell/downsell
  • Follow-up email or SMS

Separate facts from hypotheses

“There is an upsell” is an observation. “The upsell increases average order value” is a hypothesis until you have your own data.

Build ethically

Reuse principles, not protected words, images, branding, customer data or code. See funnel hacking vs copying.
