Upsells and Downsells in a Sales Funnel
Design post-purchase upsells and downsells around the customer's next useful step rather than unrelated add-ons.
Upsell
An upsell offers an additional or expanded purchase after the customer has committed to the main transaction.
Downsell
A downsell presents a lower-priced or reduced alternative, often after a prospect declines a larger offer.
Good sequencing
The next offer should make sense immediately after the previous decision. Relevance usually matters more than simply adding another product.
Watch the customer experience
Measure revenue and acceptance, but also refunds, confusion and satisfaction. Short-term average-order-value gains are not useful if they damage trust.
