Funnel A/B Testing: What to Test First

Use A/B tests to evaluate meaningful funnel hypotheses instead of random design changes.

Test one important hypothesis

An A/B test compares two variants so you can estimate whether a change influenced the target behavior.

High-leverage test ideas

  • Offer framing
  • Headline / primary promise
  • Form friction
  • Proof placement
  • Checkout structure
  • Upsell offer
  • Follow-up sequence

Avoid premature testing

If traffic is tiny, large structural problems may be more obvious from qualitative evidence and funnel metrics than from underpowered split tests.

Document the result

Record the hypothesis, primary metric, test dates, audience, result and what you learned. Winning variants are useful; learning why a test failed is useful too.
